I am an award-winning children's book author on a mission to normalize black characters in children's books. I have written and published 15 children's books and my most popular book, “Big Hair, Don’t Care” is one of Amazon’s most highly reviewed self-published children’s books. My books have been featured on TV shows, in commercials, and are sold all around the world.I'm a Diversity Publishing Pro.
(I didn't just make that up either, I actually won a medal for Diversity in Publishing!)
In addition to filling gaps in children's literature with my OWN books, I run a community of largely underrepresented aspiring authors who I teach to publish and sell their own books. Why?
Because I'm passionate about increasing diversity and inclusion in the publishing industry and it's my mission to make a real, lasting difference.
Teaching empowers the people who never even knew they could write a book to become published authors and that's all the motivation I need.
THE PUBLISHING JOURNEY WASN'T ALWAYS EASY. 🥴
So, let's get real for a sec. My journey into the whimsical world of children's books started back in 2012. Picture this: a wide-eyed, enthusiastic me, ready to take on the world of publishing... but, honestly, with no clue where to start. Back then, information on how to get your books out there was as rare as finding a talking unicorn.
I was flying solo, learning on the go, and oh boy, did I trip over a few fairy-tale roots along the way. Some blunders? Just a tad expensive. Others? Let's just say, facepalm moments. What I wouldn't have given for a wise wizard of writing to guide me through the enchanted forest of publishing!
Despite the hiccups, I did something right – my books began to sell. But I wanted more. Not just to sell books, but to turn this passion into my full-time gig, my dream job. I tried everything under the sun – and then some – to boost my visibility in the crowded book market.
And then, something clicked. I cracked the code. The secret pathways of publishing revealed themselves, and my books weren't just selling; they were soaring off the shelves!
Now, here's the deal: I've turned my once-upon-a-times and lessons learned into a mission. I'm here to be that mentor I wish I had, to help you skip the epic quests and get straight to the happily-ever-afters.
